Self-advocacy for the national disability insurance scheme (NDIS)

Learn to advocate for what you want under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Self-Advocacy for the NDIS (mental health) is a workbook that was developed following a co-design process, in partnership with Victorian Mental Illness Awareness Council (VMIAC) and Tandem. The booklet is designed to assist NDIS participants and prospective participants to navigate the NDIS.

It covers the following topics:

  • self-advocacy
  • applying for the NDIS
  • NDIS Plans (from preparation to implementation)
  • NDIS appeals and reviews for eligibility and plans
  • supports that do not need NDIS funding
  • tips for support people.

The workbook has also been adapted into an online format, called the NDIS mental health toolkit. The toolkit has information and worksheets to help you know your rights and speak up for yourself, whether you are applying for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) or have already been accepted.
